History is a collection of narratives that tell the story of mankind. And who doesn’t like a good story? We get to learn about people at their best and at their worst; helping others or conquering others; inventing things that make life easier, and creating art that can be appreciated by all; building empires and castles, aqueducts and navigation instruments. New religions and new exploration open up new worlds and ways of thinking. History gives students the chance to examine interesting lives and times, learn from them, and connect them to their own lives.

Thoughts about Teaching
Who questions much, shall learn much, and retain much. Francis Bacon

As a teacher, I have high expectations: anything less is a disservice to students. I hold the bar high, provide opportunity for authentic learning, and students rise to the occasion. With a variety of teaching techniques the learning experience can be engaging and interesting. Interactive Notebooks, problem based inquiry, Universal themes, and centers are a few of the tools and activities used in class. Each day I try and give students the opportunity to see that learning can be fun.
